Antique Bergama Rug 2.17x1.09m
Nineteenth Century Anatolian Bergama Rug, from western Anatolia (Izmir Province).
It has a wool pile hand-knotted onto wool warps. The colours are particularly attractive. The brown wool has corroded which gives the pattern a three dimensional appearance.
It has repairs dating from the early Twentieth Century, including a patch repair along one side (this measures: 43x2.5cm), a reweave in one of the blue medallions (see 5th picture below), and two reweaves in the border (one of which can be seen in the second-to-last image).
