Antique Persian Malayer Zaronim 1.48x1.04m
Stunning late Nineteenth Century Persian Malayer Rug.
The colours of this Antique Malayer Rug are amazing! The field is unpatterned except for a double medallion focal point, however, this rug is all about the colour - the field displays a wonderful flow of abrashed colours graduating from terracotta to brown. The brown shade has worn more than the spectacular corner pieces thereby creating three dimensional appearance.
Often these colour changes are a charming but unintended by-product of the village (and nomadic) weavers art, yet in this instance, the harmony and arrangement of shades is a deliberate masterstoke of an exceptionally talented weaver.
It has a wool pile, super-finely knotted onto cotton warps with single-weft construction (i.e. one weft passes after each row of knots). The weft thread is dyed blue.
Condition is commensurate with its age: overall low pile down to the knots with uneven losses to the narrow end borders (now secured), clean, no re-weaves - ready for immediate use/display.
