Semi Antique Gabbeh Rug 1.85x1.30m
This is an interesting, rustic old type Persian nomad Luri-Gabbeh Rug made circa 1950, south-west Persia. A unique rug full of personality.
This type of Gabbeh rug was made for the weavers own tent use. It contains an abundance of tribal charm - pure folk art.
The cream background enhances the eye-catching three offset pole medallions. Around the medallions there are filler motifs including donkeys on each side as well as camels complete with riders!
The pile is wool, hand-knotted onto a goat hair foundation. The last image below shows the multiple weft threads between each row of knotting. One end is fringed, the other is a band of flat weave of around 4cm. The dyes are mostly natural, perhaps with the exception of the orange.
The pile shows areas of wear in keeping with its age; there are no repairs/restorations.
